An Algorithm of Bandwidth Allocation for Elastic Traffic in Dynamic Circuit Networks

Abstract

Different profiles of applications may be supported by dynamic circuit network (DCN), which makes the problem of bandwidth allocation to highly challenging requests and of fundamental importance to the proper network performance. This article proposes a new algorithm for bandwidth allocation in DCN networks called Band Residual balancing (BBR). The BBR considers elastic applications and seeks to balance the residual band within the range of a requisition, thereby reducing the impact of advance reservations on the immediate reservations. Experiments performed through simulation showed that the BBR was 27% higher than the commonly used heuristics in the literature.
